Reader’s Lives: Sophie’s Skip Finds

Sophie from Lewes tells us more about the Georgian (c1782) terrace she shares with her husband, two kids, three cats and one dog…

What’s your favourite place to sit in the house?
The kitchen, we’re always in there and it’s the hub of the house.

What’s your favourite room in the house?
It depends on the time of day.  I love my bedroom as a sanctuary or sitting by the wood burner in the middle room. The studio is a gorgeous room and would make a great zen retreat for me but I’ve got a fireman living in there at the moment.

What’s your favourite object?
Probably my new saddle, does that count? I am really loving my Eliza Barnes Riviera ceramic pieces on my dresser, I’m starting a collection.

What do you dislike most about the house?
Old houses are amazing but there is ALWAYS something that needs mending, currently door handles seem to be dropping like flies.

How would you describe your style?
Skip chic.

What would you do differently if money was no object?
Get some really beautiful wooden floors put down – we have a lot of interesting holes in these old ones.

What advice would you give to someone about to start a whole house renovation?
Live in the house first!
