05 May Looking For A Place To Go
Eliza Barnes co-owner Paula shares how she finds a great home-from-home.
It’s that time of year when the sun comes out and we turn our thoughts to summer holidays. When it comes to choosing a place to stay on holiday my inner snob goes rampant. I can literally spend hours looking for the most amazing place to stay. So much so that often things are booked by the time I have found it. For me, where I stay is one of the most important and most memorable things about travelling.
Let’s be clear. This is not about money and blowing the budget. In fact, I am not one to spend a fortune on a place to stay. This is about finding that out of the way place that is either well designed or authentic to the country you are visiting.
You may not share my obsession, but from my hours of research, these are a few things to look out for when booking a place to stay…
WELL DESIGNED BATHROOMS
Well designed bathrooms cost no more than a badly designed one. They may be small but they can be beautiful. Look for something that has been well thought through.
A MIX OF INTERESTING FURNITURE
Some old and some new. It needs to be off-set with local finds, lovely ceramics, items particular to the area where you are staying.
BIG BEDS WITH WHITE SHEETS
Perfect for relaxing when away.
INNOVATIVE PERSONAL TOUCHES
Great art on the walls and some one-off pieces. I love it when rooms each have a different design.
DECENT OUTDOOR FURNITURE
Can you see plastic garden furniture on the patio or by the pool? Don’t go!
